Coach entering final year of contract
DENVER -- Denver Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe has
denied a report that head coach Jeff Bzdelik would be fired this week.
"There's always rumors floating around," Vandeweghe said Sunday. "But I've pretty much made my statement. I don't know why there's any controversy."
Vandeweghe called the report in Sunday's New York Daily News "totally untrue." The newspaper quoted unnamed sources at NBA headquarters and named at least two possible replacements.
Bzdelik did not return a message from The Associated Press seeking comment.
The third and final year of his contract became guaranteed when the Nuggets clinched a playoff berth in April. The contract calls for him to be paid $1.5 million for next season.
The Nuggets entered the offseason saying they were going to talk to Bzdelik about a long-term deal, but said last week that those talks would be put off indefinitely.
