CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks hired former Florida Panthers general manager Rick Dudley on Wednesday as a hockey operations consultant.

Dudley, 55, will work with Blackhawks general manager Bob Pulford and assistant general manager Dale Tallon in a variety of areas including scouting and consulting on trades.

Dudley played for the Buffalo Sabres in the 1970s, later coached that team and the International Hockey League's Detroit Vipers, and was general manager of the Ottawa Senators in 1998-99, the Tampa Bay Lightning from 1999 to 2002, and the Panthers from 2002 until he was fired this year.
