Did the Yankees ask Jason Giambi about steroids before he signed with them in 2001?
Both the slugger and general manager Brian Cashman said no Thursday.
"The Yankees had no knowledge that there was any knowledge of steroid use with Jason Giambi whatsoever," Cashman said Friday morning on ESPN's Mike and Mike radio program. "Common sense would rule the day -- if we did feel that way, then clearly we would have either steered away or protected ourselves in the strongest way of the contract."
The New York Times reported in Friday's editions that all references to steroids were removed from the guarantee language in Giambi's contract, according to a person with knowledge of the contract.
"That's a lotta BS, it's hogwash, it's not true," Cashman said on Mike and Mike.
