Tulsa will name Michigan State assistant coach Doug Wojcik as its new men's basketball coach at a noon ET news conference Monday, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com Sunday night.
Wojcik, 40, will replace interim coach Pooh Williamson, who took over for John Phillips this season once Phillips resigned on Christmas Day with the team 2-5 on the season. Tulsa finished 9-20, 5-13 in its final season in the WAC.
Wojcik is considered one of the top assistants in the country. He played at Navy with David Robinson, and also was in the spotlight when he was an assistant under Matt Doherty at North Carolina. When Doherty was forced out, Wojcik landed with Tom Izzo at Michigan State.
Tulsa interviewed Williamson, Doherty, and Kansas assistant Tim Jankovich among others. Doherty withdrew his name from consideration Friday.
Wojcik hopes to make Tulsa like another Gonzaga in the newly configured Conference USA when the Golden Hurricane move into that conference in the fall.
