Cyclist Mirabella returns bronze from Athens games

LA HABRA, Calif. -- All in one day, Olympic cyclist Erin Mirabella lost her bronze medal and became a children's author.

Mirabella returned her bronze medal from the Athens Games on Friday -- the same day she signed a contract for her first children's book. She said it will be released next year.

"Both of those are firsts for me, and I think it is kind of ironic that they happened on the same day," said Mirabella, who plans to write a series of children's books. "When one door closes, another door opens."

Mirabella had to send her medal back because the International Olympic Committee reinstated Colombia's Maria Luisa Calle as the bronze winner in the track points race. Calle was awarded the bronze originally, then stripped of it after testing positive for a banned stimulant. That result was overturned on appeal.

"This process has definitely taught me some patience," Mirabella said.
