Player Poll: Who will win the Stanley Cup?

The Hockey News

"Who do you think has the best chance to win the Stanley Cup this season?"

That's what The Hockey News asked 30 NHLers and the Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators were tied with nine votes each, while the upstart Carolina Hurricanes were next with five.

Montreal's Craig Rivet likes the Senators. "They have a complete team," he said. "They are solid offensively and defensively." New Jersey's Scott Gomez opts for the Wings. "They have a good mix of veterans and young guys," he said.

Some had trouble making up their mind. Dan Cleary of the Red Wings chose Carolina, but with an asterisk. "I would say Ottawa, but their goaltending could be a factor," Cleary said. "If Dominik [Hasek] is healthy, then I pick Ottawa, but if not, it's Carolina."

Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson said Wings goalie Manny Legace gives the Red Wings an edge. "He is having a great year and that can go a long way," Alfredsson said.

Here are the results from each team. Players were not allowed to name their own team and some respondents asked to remain anonymous.
