VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova point guard Kyle Lowry will make himself eligible for the NBA draft, but will retain the option of returning to school by not hiring an agent.

The NBA scouts and executives I spoke to over the past few weeks all had Lowry ranked as the No. 2 point guard prospect on their board, behind Marcus Williams (CT).

Lowry, a sophomore, had until Saturday to declare for the June 28 draft. The deadline to withdraw is June 18.

"It was a very difficult situation," Lowry said Thursday. "I thought long and hard about it, and I felt really good with the decision I just made."

The speedy 6-foot guard was third on the Wildcats in scoring (11 points per game) and rebounding (4.3) this season, and first in assists (3.7). His 2.3 steals per game led the Big East.
