The club also recalled right-handed pitcher Jon Adkins from Portland and outrighted pitcher Dewon Brazelton to Triple-A.

Bowen was hit by Prince Fielder's foul tip with two outs in the fourth inning of Thursday's game against Milwaukee. He caught the last two pitches of the inning, then left the game. Bowen is batting .435 (10-for-23) with a home run and seven RBI in 18 games.

McAnulty was batting .278 with eight homers and 19 RBI for Portland. Adkins was 1-0 with seven saves and had not allowed an earned run in 12 innings with the Beavers. Brazelton is 0-2 with a 12.00 ERA in nine games (two starts) for the Padres.
