Stars make qualifying offers to six restricted FAs

Associated Press

DALLAS -- Center Steve Ott and defenseman Trevor Daley were among six restricted free agents who got qualifying contract offers Monday from the Dallas Stars.

The Stars also made qualifying offers to goaltenders Dan Ellis and Mike Smith, right winger Junior Lessard and left winger Mathias Tjarnqvist.

The qualifying offers, which expire July 15, ensure that salary raises for the players who sign with the Stars. The team also has the right of first refusal or draft choice compensation should any of the players sign offer sheets with another NHL club.

Left wingers David Bararuk and Jaroslav Svoboda were not extended qualifying offers. They will be eligible to become unrestricted free agents Saturday and could then sign with any team without compensation to the Stars.
