Lynx hire veteran Lewis as assistant to fill out staff
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Lynx hired Jim Lewis on Tuesday as an assistant coach for the remainder of the season to fill an opening on the staff following Suzie McConnell Serio's resignation.
Lewis has coached the sport for 36 years and has been a head coach at the college level for 20 years -- most recently at Fordham University in New York, where he has been since 1999. Lewis was the first coach of the WNBA's Washington Mystics in 1998.
McConnell Serio resigned on Sunday, though she indicated that the decision was mutual between her and the team. The Lynx took an 8-15 record, worst in the Western Conference, into Tuesday night's game in Charlotte against the Sting.
Assistant coach Carolyn Jenkins was named interim head coach for the rest of the season, which ends on Aug. 13 for Minnesota.
