Atkinson plated Brody Hawkins with a single to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning, lifting the Canadian champion to a 2-1 Pool C victory over Saipan in the LLWS finale for both clubs.
Surrey (1-2) trailed 1-0 before Brandon Smith led off the bottom of the sixth with a bloop single off Harry Nakamura.
Pinch-runner Lars Lorenz advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on Mitch Comeau's bunt. Saipan catcher Anthony Salas elected to throw to third after Comeau dropped his bunt, but Lorenz beat the throw.
After Comeau stole second, Hawkins hit a grounder that shortstop Peter Tenorio gloved but threw errantly to first. Lorenz scored the tying run but Comeau was thrown out at the plate by Rocco Reyes.
Hawkins never stopped running on the play and wound up at third. Atkinson ended the contest by sending Nakamura's offering to right field.
Jeff Bouchard tossed a two-hitter to pick up the win. He struck out nine and walked two.
Nakamura gave up two runs -- one earned -- and seven hits for the Pacific champions (0-3). He struck out eight but walked four.
