The off-season vacation begins in Hawaii with the Pro Bowl, which Hawaii native and two-time Bears All-Pro Herman "Buddy" Clark helped his home state land. Wide receiver Russ Francis (14 seasons in the NFL), running back Mosiula Tatupu (14 seasons and 199 games), and linebacker Kurt Gouveia (two Super Bowls with the Redskins, a 1984 national title with BYU) also are from the Aloha state.

COLLEGE

High octane passing offenses have had Hawaii quarterbacks flirting with the Heisman in recent years, but the original candidate was Herman Wedenmeyer, a college hall of famer who finished fourth in the 1945 voting while playing at St. Mary's College. The St. Louis High School product later played Duke Lukela on "Hawaii Five-O." Among the Rainbows and Warriors (courtesy of a mascot change in 2000) to move on to the NFL are Jesse Sapolu, who played 12 seasons with the 49ers.
