Cubs GM Hendry admitted to hospital with exhaustion

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida -- Chicago Cubs general manager Jim Hendry was admitted to the hospital with exhaustion Wednesday evening.

The team said the condition is not life-threatening, but the 51-year-old Hendry will remain overnight for observation.

The Cubs on Wednesday signed free agent lefthander Ted Lilly to a four-year, $40 million contract, pending a physical. They also have signed star outfielder Alfonso Soriano and versatile infielder Mark DeRosa this offseason, in addition to re-signing third baseman Aramis Ramirez.

"(Hendry) is getting after it and I'm appreciative of that," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said Wednesday afternoon. "I was told when I came here that there is urgency to win and believe me, they are showing that commitment."
