No. 49 Idaho

The mountains of fries consumed at NFL stadiums are no match for the Sawtooth Range, nor are they Idaho's only contribution. Hall of Fame linebacker Dave Wilcox played at Boise Junior College. Packers lineman Jerry Kramer played at Idaho. Quarterback John Friesz, who spent 11 seasons in the NFL, played high school ball in Coeur d'Alene, and onetime Vandal quarterback Scott Linehan now coaches the St. Louis Rams.

No. 27 Idaho

The turf is blue, but the Boise State fans aren't — unless they're decorated in team colors — even when late-season and bowl games would suggest they should keep their shirts on. Building on the tradition of defensive tackle Randy Trautman and the 1980 I-AA title team, the Broncos already have earned a BCS berth in their short time in D-IA. Idaho has had a number of notable coaches, including Dennis Erickson, John L. Smith and Bobby Petrino (as an assistant).

Drew Mayes

Boise State fan Drew Mayes: I can't help but notice the dripping hypocrisy of the Bowl Championship Series. No. 42 Idaho

Idaho's favorite son, Jake Plummer, is a quarterback for the Denver Broncos (for many, the state's favorite NFL team). The Gem State is also the home of NFL Hall of Famer Larry Wilson from Rigby. Spring 2006 D-I signees: eight. Fall 2006 high school football teams: 130.
