Weather: The rainy days and tolerant temperatures that the 2002 BASS Masters Classic pros enjoyed during the official six day scouting period in June were replaced by bright sunshine, stifling heat and humbling humidity during the late-July event. Each day dawned in the 70s, but soon gave way to temperatures that hovered around the 90 degree mark. Any rain showers were rare and brief.
Water: The lake had good visibility. Fortunately for winner, Jay Yelas, Alabama Power created plenty of tailrace current each day with its power-generation turbines at Logan Martin Dam.
Lake Level: Water level remained steady and was not a factor. Lay Lake was reported at, or about, normal pool for late July.
