Villone gets spring training invite from Yanks
TAMPA, Fla. -- Reliever Ron Villone agreed to a minor league
contract with the New York Yankees on Tuesday and was invited to
the team's major league spring training camp.
The 37-year-old left-hander went 3-3 with a 5.04 ERA in a
career-high 70 games with the Yankees last season. Villone has
pitched for 10 major league teams and has a career mark of 55-57.
Villone made $2.1 million last season. He would get a $2.5
million, one-year contract if added to the major league roster and
would have the chance to earn $300,000 in performance bonuses:
$100,000 each for 55, 60 and 65 games.
