Phillies lose Werth to DL on eve of series with Mets
PHILADELPHIA -- Outfielder Jayson Werth was placed on the
15-day disabled list by the Philadelphia Phillies because of a
sprained left wrist after Thursday night's win against the Cincinnati Reds.
The move was one of four by the Phillies, who begin a pivotal
four-game series with the NL East-leading New York Mets on Friday.
Philadelphia recalled catcher Chris Coste from Double-A Reading
and right-hander J.D. Durbin from Triple-A Scranton. Durbin will
start the first game of a day-night doubleheader Friday against the
Mets. The Phillies optioned right-hander Yoel Hernandez to

To make room for Durbin on the 40-man roster, the Phillies moved
right-hander Scott Mathieson to the 60-day DL. Mathieson underwent
ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow in Sept. 2006.
Werth said he injured the wrist playing catch during the
Phillies series in Cleveland from June 18-20. He said the injury
had nothing to do with his previous wrist ailment that sidelined
for most of the past two seasons.
