Head-first slide knocks Ortiz from game vs. White Sox
ESPN.com news services
Red Sox slugger David Ortiz left Friday night's game against the visiting White Sox with a mild shoulder sprain after an awkward head-first slide into second base during the fifth inning of Boston's 10-3 victory.
A lumbering Ortiz was thrown out on the play by Chicago right fielder Jermaine Dye after Coco Crisp scored from third to give Boston a 5-3 lead.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said the injury wasn't serious.
With no outs, Crisp had put the Red Sox up 4-3 with a three-run, stand-up triple off White Sox starter Jose Contreras before Ortiz laced a single to right.
