Djokovic, Ferrero advance in Vienna

VIENNA, Austria -- Top-seeded Novak Djokovic defeated Robby Ginepri 6-3, 6-4 Tuesday to reach the second round of the BA-CA Tennis Trophy.

The third-ranked Serb dropped serve three times in the opening set but broke Ginepri four times.

"I was satisfied with my game from the baseline, but I was not happy at all with my serve," Djokovic said. "This was my first indoor match and it was hard to adapt to the circumstances.The surface is very slow and the arena is extremely humid. Even people sitting in the audience were sweating."

Djokovic next plays Tomas Zib of the Czech Republic, who beat Florian Mayer of Germany 6-1, 6-4.

Juan Carlos Ferrero rallied past fifth-seeded Guillermo Canas 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5). The 23rd-ranked Spaniard, who lost both previous matches against Canas this season, broke the Argentine twice in the second set.

Seventh-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina downed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 6-3, 6-1, breaking Chela broke four times and serving flawlessly.

David Nalbandian of Argentina held off four break points in the second set before defeating qualifier Stefano Galvani of Italy 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Mardy Fish of the United States defeated Nicolas Almagro of Spain 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-4. Fish, who held serve throughout, will face two-time defending champion Ivan Ljubicic in the next round.

Jurgen Melzer also advanced after beating Alexander Peya 6-4, 6-3 in all-Austrian first-round match. Feliciano Lopez of Spain defeated Werner Eschauer of Austria 6-3, 6-2, and Julien Benneteau of France stopped Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-2.
