As Led Zeppelin prepares for the Nov. 13 release of both its back catalogue online and new album, the band might be the only ones not wondering about what's happening in Lincoln, Neb.
The Cornhuskers were dazed and confused again on Saturday, dropping a 45-14 decision to Oklahoma State in Memorial Stadium. This coming on the heels of Mizzou shaking Nebraska all night long in a 41-6 rout on Oct. 6. Needless to say, the Huskers haven't been shown a whole lotta love lately.
They're giving no quarter in Lincoln. Nebraska fired athletic director Steve Pederson on Monday. Former coach Tom Osborne returned to step in as interim AD. We'll see if Dr. Tom's return will help the Huskers find the stairway to Big Red heaven. But for now, the Children of the Corn can take the express elevator down to the highly coveted No. 5 spot.
The Bottom 10's feeling a bit dazed and confused, too. No Temple. No Buffalo. No Directional Michigan.
No worries, though, we haven't experienced a communication breakdown with FIU, Utah State or Idaho. Sometimes, the song does remain the same.
Florida International, which has lost a Div. I-A-worst 18 straight games, remains No. 1. The Panthers are joined by the three other I-A teams still searching for their first win of the season. We'll let the songs of Led Zeppelin guide us through the latest edition of the Bottom 10. If you can get tickets, be sure to catch both the Zeppelin reunion show in London on Nov. 26 and the FIU-Louisiana-Monroe pillow fight of the week in Monroe, La. Have a comment about the Bottom 10 ranking? Send us your thoughts. So, with apologies to Steve Harvey, here's the Bottom 10:
|ESPN.com's Bottom 10|
|1.||FIU||0-6||"The Song Remains The Same": A bye week spared the Panthers from another defeat, but 18 straight losses keeps them at No. 1.|
|2.||Utah State||0-6||"Your Time Is Gonna Come": When the time comes, the Aggies, who also had a bye, have the résumé (12 straight losses) to replace the Panthers.|
|3.||Colorado State||0-6||"Good Times Bad Times": The Rams have seen many good times under Sonny Lubick, but the current 13-game losing streak definitely qualifies as bad times.|
|4.||Marshall||0-6||"Whole Lotta Love": The Thundering Herd haven't heard many sweet nothings whispered in their ears after the 0-6 start.|
||4-3||"Dazed And Confused": Over the past 45 years, the Huskers have lost only three home games by more than 15 points. Li'l Red's seen two of them this season.|
|6.||Idaho||1-6||"Stairway To Heaven": The Vandals are still looking for the piper to lead them to reason. Until then, they are five stairway steps from Bottom 10 heaven.|
|7.||Northern Illinois||1-6||"Black Dog": The Huskies are barking in last place in the MAC West, but have the bite to make a Bottom 10 climb.|
|8.||Iowa State||1-6||"You Shook Me": Gene Chizik used to be the Texas defensive coordinator, but that didn't stop the Horns from shaking a 56-3 win out of the Cyclones.|
|9.||U-L U-Pick 'em||2-11||"I Can't Quit You, Baby": After only a week apart, the Bottom 10 returns to the loving arms of the Ragin' Cajuns and Warhawks.|
|10.||Syracuse||1-6||"Communication Breakdown": Wonder if Greg Robinson still thinks Rutgers is a one-year wonder after the Scarlet Knights' 38-14 win over the Orange.|
Waiting list: Duke (1-6), Minnesota (1-6), NC State (1-5), Notre Dame (1-6), Rice (1-5), SMU (1-5) and Tulane (1-5).
