Bettman expects Tocchet to rejoin Coyotes on Thursday news services

Rick Tocchet could be back in the NHL real soon.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who attended Phoenix's 4-3 overtime win against Colorado on Monday, said beforehand that Tocchet is on track to resume his position as an assistant coach with the Coyotes on Thursday.

Tocchet is currently on two years' probation after pleading guilty to promoting gambling and conspiracy to promote gambling.

"I spoke with Rick last week and I wished him well," Bettman said. "I think it's time for all of us, including him ... to move forward, look forward and put this all behind us. And I think Rick is prepared to put it behind him."

Since the betting ring, in which Tocchet partnered with a New Jersey state trooper and another man, became public in February 2006, the former star forward has been on an indefinite leave of absence that was granted by Bettman.

Bettman denied Tocchet's request for reinstatement in early November.
