San Diego coach reaps reward after Toreros get NCAA berth
SAN DIEGO -- University of San Diego coach Bill Grier has agreed to a contract extension after leading the Toreros to the NCAA tournament in his first season.
Terms of the extension weren't announced. Grier, a longtime assistant at Gonzaga, was hired last March after Brad Holland was fired.
The Toreros (21-13) upset Gonzaga to win the West Coast Conference tournament. They will play Connecticut on Friday in Tampa, Fla., in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
"I'm certainly excited about our future here and hopefully we can build off of this season," Grier said in a statement released by the school.
