Rank Player Comment

Kevin Garnett
Boston Celtics
Power Forward
Complete stats
Count me among the confused minority asking why so many people are making the MVP a two-man, Kobe-vs.-CP3 debate. Yes, KG is surrounded by some terrific players, but he's the driving force behind an unprecedented team turnaround (from 24 wins in 2006-07 to 64-66 wins this season). In my opinion, that trumps all other arguments.

Kobe Bryant
Los Angeles Lakers
Shooting Guard
Complete stats
Another one of my beefs: the "lifetime achievement award" argument that some are making to support Bryant's candidacy. Yes, he's the game's best player, but also give credit to Andrew Bynum, Sasha Vujacic and Jordan Farmar for improving on their own, to Lamar Odom for staying healthy, and to Mitch Kupchak for signing Derek Fisher and acquiring Pau Gasol.

Chris Paul
New Orleans Hornets
Point Guard
Complete stats
I had Paul ahead of Bryant for the longest time but lost some of my zeal while watching Paul's no-show vs. Utah last week, which came a couple nights after he bricked two would-be clinching free throws in the final seconds against Orlando. CP3 is incredibly fun to watch and insanely valuable to his team. But the MVP of the entire league? No.

Dwight Howard
Orlando Magic
Center
Complete stats
It's not Howard's fault that he plays on the most underappreciated team in the entire NBA. He's the game's most dominant big man. (Sorry, Yao and Amare, and you understand, Shaq.) Plus, Howard never takes a night off.

LeBron James
Cleveland Cavaliers
Forward
Complete stats
LeBron was my preseason pick. He has had as good of a season as I imagined he would, but being the league's only 30-point scorer does not make you an MVP if your team is only eight games over .500.
