Truck kills woman, hurts man outside Summer Nationals
TOPEKA, Kan. -- An Oklahoma woman was killed and another person was injured after being struck by a pickup truck outside the NHRA O'Reilly Summer Nationals Sunday at Heartland Park Topeka.
The truck was leaving the parking area near the winner's circle when it drove onto the gravel portion of a road where four people were walking, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported on its Web site.
A 55-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man, also from Oklahoma, were struck, Kristi Pankratz of the Topeka Police Department told the Capital-Journal.
The woman was transported to an area hospital, where she later died. The man was taken by helicopter to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Names of the victims were not released.
The driver and his passenger weren't injured.
