Ah, Youth

By Brian Kamenetzky

Women's Moto X Racing isn't simply a young event in the "This Year We Debut at X Games" sense, or the sense that Women's Motocross Association was founded way back in 2004. (Ask your parents about it if you can't remember that far.)

I mean young in the literal sense. The average age of the ten riders in X Games 14's inaugural competition is a mere 20.6—the youngest being favorite Ashley Fiolek (17), the oldest Ashley Boham (24). Compare that to the men, who average a relatively grizzly 26.06 years of age. Even by tossing out Jeremy McGrath, the oldest racer in the field at 36, the average is still 25.4, which is older than any of the women's racers.
