The world's best freeskiers return to Kirkwood Mountain Resort, CA, for the 12th Annual Subaru North American Freeskiing Championships

By Press Release

Salt Lake City, UT (March 12, 2009)—The highly anticipated third stop of the 2009 Freeskiing World Tour (FWT) arrives once again at Kirkwood Mountain Resort for the 12th Annual Subaru North American Freeskiing Championships (NAFC). Freeskiing's elite will battle it out in the Sierra snow March 18-22 for the NAFC title and cash prize.

"Kirkwood is excited to have the NAFC back here again after a year hiatus," said Kirkwood Mountain Resort Marketing Manager Chris Eckert. "The Cirque has been a proving ground for the best athletes in our sport and it should be no different this year."

Competitors from around the globe will vie for a $20,000 prize purse. With approximately 150 competitors attending, the current FWT points' leaders Clif Bennett and Michelle Manning will have their work cut out for them as they try to hold onto their lead. Also in attendance will be reigning Subaru US Freeskiing Tour Champion Crystal Wright, Jacqui Edgerly, Crystal-Rose Lee, Chris Tatsuno, Kent Hyden, Julien Lopez and Arne Backstrom.

The proposed venues for qualifying will be on Lookout Vista with the finals being held on the forbidden terrain of the Cirque. The permanently closed Cirque offers a variety of untouched tight lines and huge airs. The venue is visible from Devil's Corral at the base of Vista and the Cirque. As always there is plenty of front-row seating to watch the competitors put everything on the line.

"The FWT is coming back to Kirkwood," said Mountain Sports International Winter Sports Event Director and Announcer Dak Williams. "We're excited to be back on one of big mountain skiing's premiere venues. If you are not in Kirkwood for this event you are missing one of the truly great ski events of the year."
