BOYS' TEAM OF THE YEAR

PENN WOOD
Basketball
After Roman Catholic, Pennsbury, Neumann-Goretti and other favorites from Philly to Pittsburgh fell aside, Penn Wood emerged victorious, winning the Class AAAA state title. Led by seniors Duane Johnson, Tyree Johnson and Aaron Brown, the Patriots toppled William Penn, 72-53, to claim the state championship. Penn Wood finished the year with a 28-4 record in what was the team's first-ever trip to the state final. Tyree Johnson earned recognition as the All-Delco Boys' Basketball Player of the Year.

OTHER FINALISTS

La SALLE
Lacrosse
The Explorers were a mainstay in the national rankings this season and with good reason. La Salle boasts four senior All-Americans  Niko Amato, Tucker Durkin, Tyler Knarr and Pete Schwartz.

LIBERTY
Football
Junior quarterback Anthony Gonzalez scored three touchdowns, but it was his spectacular one-handed interception in overtime that led the Hurricanes to a 28-21 victory over Bethel Park in the Class AAAA title game.

NORTH PENN
Cross Country
Led by juniors Brad Miles, who finished seventh overall, and Sam Bernitt, who was 10th, the Knights won the PIAA Class AAA championship. North Penn scored 92 points to best runner-up La Salle by 33 points.

GIRLS' TEAM OF THE YEAR

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL
Basketball
The Class AAA state champs finished the season ranked sixth in the ESPN RISE FAB 50. Senior guard Kerri Shields, a Boston College recruit who earned All- Southeastern Pennsylvania first team honors by The Philadelphia Inquirer, led the Patriots. Junior guard Erin Shields earned second team honors while senior forward Kaitlin Cole and junior forward Hollie Mershon were honorable mentions. The Patriots won all but one of their tournament games by more than 10 points, including a 68-45 win in the final over Lampeter-Strasburg.

OTHER FINALISTS

HARRITON
Tennis
Led by senior Casey Robinson at No. 1 singles, Harriton dispatched of Holy Name in the Class AA state championship, sweeping all events in a 5-0 win. Senior Anna Matlack and junior Morgan Frechie also earned singles wins.

PENN MANOR
Field Hockey
The Comets claimed the Class AAA state title with a 5-0 win over Hershey. Seniors Jenn Bradley, Kathi Weidman and Cathryn Altdoerffer, junior Jill Witmer and sophomore Renee Suter earned All-State first team honors.

SWENSON
Track
The Lions continue to impress at virtually every meet. The two-time defending PIAA Class AA state champions are led by junior sprinters Shanae Bailey and Vanessa Mack and senior hurdler Anthonia Ballard.
