Green dominates for Texas after three

AUSTIN, Texas -- Despite a rare wind that is blowing out at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, it's been a battle of pitching and defense so far, as TCU and Texas are hooked up in a scoreless tie after three innings.

Texas starter Cole Green has retired eight straight Horned Frog hitters after allowing a one-out single by Taylor Featherston in the TCU first inning.

Green has been especially effective in his past two innings. He retired Rice on only five pitches -- all strikes -- in the second inning.

And he accentuated that strong effort with two strikeouts on called strikes and a groundout in the third inning.

TCU pitcher Paul Gerrish has scattered one hit in three innings, as Travis Tucker singled with one out in the Texas first inning. Trucker was retired on a double play when he was caught stealing after Brandon Bolt struck out on a botched hit-and-run play.

Gerrish has struggled recently, but is thriving in the hot, sultry conditions with three strikeouts and no walks.

This pitching battle is more what most expected from these two teams rather than last night's 10-4 victory by Texas. It looks like a run or two might be enough to claim this game.
