Durant ready to hit the camp circuit
By JC Shurburtt
EUGENE, Ore. -- Here are some recruiting notes and news stemming from the Eugene Nike Football Training Camp held Saturday at the University of Oregon.
Lemar Durant (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Centennial) is one of the top athletes from Canada in this year's class. He was outstanding Saturday. He holds no scholarship offers at this time but is getting looks from a number of programs and is about to hit the camp circuit.
"I am going to try to camp at Washington, Oregon, Southern California and Idaho," he said. "I also am going to camp at Nevada."
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Durant also is getting looks from various schools in basketball. He averaged 32 points per game this past season.
Perhaps the top prospect at the event, Booker Wells (Portland, Ore./Grant), does not have any scholarship offers to his credit thus far. He has, however, been getting letters from Oregon. Look for him to pick up several scholarship offers as he continues to camp.
MVP making the rounds
The MVP of the event, quarterback Garrett Grayson (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage), has camped at Oregon State and plans to head to Washington and Boise State this summer. Grayson said his experience at OSU was a good one.
"The coaches called my coach right after I went there to check on me to let him know that I did well," he said.
Class of 2011 tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Gig Harbor, Wash./Gig Harbor) could be the top overall prospect from the Northwest for the next recruiting cycle. The 6-foot-8, 250-pounder was a no-show at the camp, but there was quite a bit of buzz about him from several observers.
• Class of 2011 quarterback Brett Smith (Salem, Ore./West Salem) has no scholarship offers to his credit but is getting camp information in the mail from Oregon State, Boise State and Portland State. California came by his school during the evaluation period.
• Another quarterback who shone at the camp, Grant Hedrick (Independence, Ore./Central), holds a scholarship offer from Portland State. He will camp at Boise State on Monday and plans to camp at Oregon and Oregon State this summer.
• Leon LeDeaux (Port Orchard, Wash./South Kitsap) is getting looks from Washington, Washington State, Idaho, Montana and UCLA. He has no current scholarship offers but recently camped with the Huskies in Seattle.
