Gonzalez's HRs to help needy kids
SAN FRANCISCO -- San Diego slugger Adrian Gonzalez has extra incentive to do well in the All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday.
Gonzalez and his wife, Betsy, will donate $200 to needy children for each home run he hits at Busch Stadium in St. Louis -- and the Padres will match that total. The couple work to help underprivileged youth in athletics, education and health.
The money will benefit The Adrian and Betsy Gonzalez Foundation and the Padres Foundation. Fans can get in on the giving by visiting www.adriangonzalezfoundation.org. The goal is to raise $25,000.
Gonzalez will be just the third Padres player to participate in the Derby. Fred McGriff and Gary Sheffield took part in 1992 in San Diego.
