Padres hiring Ready as hitting coach
SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres have fired hitting coach Jim Lefebvre and replaced him with Randy Ready.
The Padres, last in the majors in runs scored (380) and batting average (.232), and 29th in on-base percentage (.309), made the move Friday.
Lefebvre, 67, was hired as hitting coach last November, replacing Wally Joyner, who had resigned before the end of the season. Lefebvre previously managed the Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers.
Ready, 49, was managing at Triple-A Portland and will serve as hitting coach for the rest of the season. He becomes the Padres' fifth hitting coach in the last four years, following Dave Magadan, Merv Rettemund, Joyner and Lefebvre.
