Top teams have familiar feel in Midwest

When you think of high school soccer in Indiana and Wisconsin, there are two boys' programs that come to mind right away -- Marquette (Wis.) and North Central (Ind.).

The perennial powerhouses don't rebuild as some say -- they just reload. And that's the case again this fall, as the duo is once again the team to beat in their respective states.

Marquette is the clear favorite in Wisconsin with St. Louis-bound forward Mike Roettgers leading the way. The senior is back at full strength after injuring his left knee early last season. Brookfield Central, Brookfield East, Arrowhead and Whitefish Bay are four other programs that will be in the spotlight this season.

Whitefish Bay's Charlie Hoover (Marquette), Homestead's Gabe Genovesi (Akron) and Brookfield East's Luke Goodnetter (Wisconsin) are three other players that will be in the running for All-America honors at the end of the season.

But the one player coaches throughout Wisconsin are talking about is Hartford's James Weber. While the junior forward does not play for a soccer powerhouse, he recorded 76 goals the past two seasons combined and is within striking distance of setting a new career scoring record. The current mark stands at 126.

In Indiana, North Central has a talented balance attack led by Indiana recruit Nikita Kotlov under longtime coach Jerry Little. But Carmel, Zionsville and Reitz Memorial also are loaded once again. Zionsville features two stud Division I recruits in Harrison Petts (Indiana) and A.J. Corrado (Southern Methodist).
