Big 12 preseason basketball accolades

We take a quick break from football talk to bring you the preseason Big 12 basketball awards, as selected by the league head coachs (who could not vote for players on their own teams). There was some Big 12 South representation, though you should know that Kansas teammates Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich were named co-players of the year. Iowa State forward Marquis Gilstrap earned preseason newcomer of the year.

Some Big 12 South highlights:

* Texas guard Avery Bradley was selected as preseason freshman of the year. He was rated the top prospect in the country by ESPNU and was a Parade All-American. Bradley's Findlay Prep High School (Nevada) team was 33-0 last season with Bradley scored 19.1 points per game with 4.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.6 steals.

* Oklahoma's Wille Warren, sophomore guard from Fort Worth's North Crowley, made the all-Big 12 preseason team. So did Oklahoma State junior James Anderson and Texas senior Damion James.
