Stephenville fans rally for good cause
The Stephenville Yellow Jackets' fans sure know how to support their football team, but they know how to rally behind a good cause even more.
Last Friday, Stephenville had a "white-out" game, selling t-shirts for $10 to raise money for Stephenville offensive coordinator Greg Winder's 12-year-old niece Presley Boydstun, who is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Stephenville assistant athletic director Mike Carroll reports that Presley's family was given a check for more than $7,000 from the white-out game.
"[We] anticipate another $1,000-plus by the time it's all said and done," he said. "This will help the family with all of the hidden costs associated with Presley's illness."
The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, will try to win their eighth straight game when they play at Crowley (3-6, 2-4 in District 8-4A) in the regular-season finale Friday night. At 7-2 and 6-0, Stephenville has clinched a playoff spot and at least a share of the district championship.
