Jones, SMU going to Hawaii with one more win?

UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas -- SMU coach June Jones was pretty direct when asked if he had a bowl preference should the Mustangs get a win in the next three games.

"We're going to go to Hawaii if we win," Jones said after practice Thursday, referencing the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. "Our goal is to win six games, and we have three chances to do that. Hopefully, it's this week."

SMU faces UTEP at home Saturday and also plays Marshall on the road and Tulane at home. One win makes them bowl-eligible; two wins gives them a winning season.

Hawaii has several ties to SMU. Jones and much of his staff worked there in turning that program around. And SMU's last bowl appearance was at the Aloha Bowl in 1984.
