Romo, Austin take Vegas vacation
By Tim MacMahon
IRVING, Texas -- Quarterback Tony Romo took another trip on an off-weekend before his Dallas Cowboys faced the New York Giants.
Various gossip Web sites published photos of Romo and Miles Austin hanging out in Las Vegas over the weekend, which the Cowboys had off after their Thanksgiving victory over the Oakland Raiders.
A source within the Cowboys organization has confirmed to ESPN.com's Matt Mosley that Romo attended a "private function" Friday evening in Las Vegas and returned to the team's practice facility for treatment on his back sometime Saturday morning.
When asked about the vacation a couple hours after the team's media access period, a team spokesperson said Romo and Austin were not available for comment.
Romo's last weekend getaway before a Cowboys-Giants game became a subject of much debate. He spent the bye weekend of the 2007 season's playoffs in Cabo San Lucas with then-girlfriend Jessica Simpson, her family and some friends, including Cowboys teammates Jason Witten and Bobby Carpenter.
After the top-seeded Cowboys lost to the Giants at Texas Stadium, Romo dismissed questions about whether his vacation was a sign that he didn't have the proper focus entering the playoffs.
"I thought I was making a good decision not going to Vegas and drinking for two or three days," Romo said at the time.
Romo, who spends as much free times at the team facility as any Cowboy, has said several times that he isn't concerned with public perception of him.
"I'm content in my own skin and who I am as a person -- and what I've tried to do to get to this point," Romo said when asked about the Cabo vacation before the playoff loss to the Giants. "I don't feel the need to live a life that's perceived. I don't want to be fake. You know, I don't want in any way to do those things. If I feel like something is going to help me or this team, I'm gonna do it."
