Rangers could add catcher to wish list
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia (shoulder surgery) will be evaluated Friday so the team can determine if he's had a minor setback in his rehab or if the reason he's feeling some pain and numbness in his arm is a new injury.
Because of Saltalamacchia's situation, the Rangers' could make finding a veteran catcher even more of a priority. The team offered salary arbitration to Ivan Rodriguez, but don't expect him to accept it. They would still like to negotiate with Rodriguez, represented by Scott Boras, but Rodriguez will likely test the market to see what kind of value he has to various teams.
"It's a door that is definitely going to be kept open," Daniels said about Rodriguez. "We have to see what's going on with Salty, and Pudge has to see his options."
Daniels said that, if Saltalamacchia and Teagarden are healthy, he is comfortable with both competing for the starting job.
