Lodwick beats international field
SOLDIER HOLLOW, Utah -- World champion Todd Lodwick of Steamboat Springs, Colo., won the Nordic Combined Continental Cup on Saturday against an international field.
Austrian Tomaz Druml was second and Germany's Steffen Tepel third.
After picking up the lead on the jump, Lodwick sprinted to a big advantage through heavy snow on the 10-kilometer cross country portion of the race.
His coach, Greg Poirier, said Lodwick's win wasn't a big surprise, "but his level of skiing shows that he'll be a tough competitor on the World Cup."
Lodwick skipped the first two weekends of the World Cup to race at Soldier Hollow, where he came out of retirement a year ago and began the best season of his career. He'll rejoin the World Cup circuit next weekend in Austria.
