What to watch: Findlay Prep vs. Northland

By Ronnie Flores

No. 1 Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) vs.
No. 13 Northland (Columbus, Ohio), 7 ET, ESPN

Watch live on

Jared Sullinger

Jared Sullinger rebounded from a heartbreaking end to his sophomore season to become a state champion and one of the nation's best ballers. Story

• Watch out for the Findlay Prep duo of Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph. Those guys are good for 40 points a night, and Joseph creates many backcourt mismatches with his athleticism and savvy. Does Northland have anyone to keep him under his 21 ppg average?

• Watch out for Northland's Jared Sullinger, a 260-pound thoroughbred and the No. 2 prospect in the ESPNU 100. Sullinger and his running mates up front might be able to slow down the Pilots' frontline. J.D. Weatherspoon is headed to Ohio State with Sullinger, but the guy who could have a breakout game if Findlay Prep focuses its attention on Sullinger is Jalen Robinson. He's a transfer from Westerville South headed to play for "Huggs" at West Virginia.

• Look for Sullinger, one of the front-runners for ESPN RISE Mr. Basketball USA honors, to go for a double-double, but it will be the play of Trey Burke, a Penn State commit, that could decide the outcome of this game. He's one of the fastest risers in the junior class and he'll need to step up against Joseph.

• Look closely and you'll see just how good Findlay Prep's Jabari Brown and Nick Johnson are. Even if Northland neutralizes the Pilots' frontcourt, this duo on the wing can really let it fly. Especially Johnson. He can knock down jumpers with little room to operate, ala Ray Allen.

• Watch a great matchup of high school coaches, with Michael Peck at the controls for Findlay Prep matching wits with Satch Sullinger. Yes, Satch is Jared's dad, but he also knows his Xs & Os. Northland's Mike Clouse and the Pilots' Todd Simon are key assistants who play a big role in each program's success.

• Keep your eye on Findlay Prep diaper dandy Nigel Williams-Goss. Originally from Portland, he's one of the best 2013 players in the country. On a lesser team, he'd be a star. Truthfully, he'd be the No. 3 option on many FAB 50 teams.
