Unbeatens advance in Sandra Meadows Classic

DUNCANVILLE -- Defending champion Fayetteville (Ark.) and host Duncanville were among the 16 girls basketball teams to advance to the second round of the 59th Sandra Meadows Classic on Monday at Duncanville High School.

Duncanville, the top-ranked Class 5A team in Texas, coasted to the biggest win of the opening round, 79-16, over Rowlett in the morning session. Fayetteville, the No. 2 ranked team in Arkansas, subdued Allen, 43-33, in the afternoon.

Both teams are undefeated this season. Duncanville is 19-0, and Fayetteville is 10-0.

Other opening-round winners were DeSoto, Euless Trinity, Amarillo Palo Duro, Rockwall, Bishop Lynch, Frisco Liberty, Garland Naaman Forest, Houston Westbury Christian, Frisco, Mesquite, Southlake Carroll, Plano West and Mesquite Horn.

Rockwall's Peyton Adamson, a 5-7 senior guard, scored 41 points, including six 3-pointers, in a 73-47 victory over Kennedale.

Dallas Bishop Lynch senior guard Alexa Hardick scored 27 points, including eight 3-pointers, in her team's 67-63 win over Flower Mound. Bishop Lynch (17-5) is the state's top-ranked large private school team.

Four second-round games in the championship bracket are scheduled for Monday evening:

DeSoto vs. Trinity, 6 p.m.
Frisco Liberty vs. Garland Naaman Forest, 7:30 p.m.
Houston Westbury Christian vs. Frisco, 7:30 p.m.
Southlake Carroll vs. Duncanville, 7:30 p.m.

The remaining four second-round games in the championship bracket will be played Tuesday morning.
