Shaw commits to Florida State

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The commitment of wide receiver Kenny Shaw (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) to Florida State is another reason why relationships are the cornerstone of recruiting.
Under Armour All-American WR Kenny Shaw committed to play for Florida State over Florida.
"What I liked most about Florida State is my position coach there, coach Lawrence Dawsey," Shaw said. "I have built a great relationship with him during the months that I have known him. The tradition up there is just unbelievable."
Shaw's pledge, which came during Saturday's Under Armour All-American Game at Tropicana Field, didn't come as a surprise. He has had the Seminoles out in front for his services for most of the process, thanks to Dawsey's work on the recruiting trail.
Shaw continues some serious momentum for Florida State and new head coach Jimbo Fisher and staff on the recruiting trail. The past month has seen the Seminoles land Under Armour All-American cornerback Lamarcus Joyner, Under Armour All-American linebacker Jeff Luc and top 15 prospect Matt Elam for one of the nation's top 2010 recruiting classes.
"(Fisher) has his first recruiting class rolling," Shaw said. "With guys like Jeff Luc and Lamarcus Joyner and me coming into the class, we can do something special throughout the years."
Florida was the other program that was a factor.
"There was a time when I had them right up there with Florida State," Shaw said. "But FSU broke apart. I am part of the family now."
Shaw has a chance to do something special, too. He proved he is among the nation's best this week during Under Armour practices and if you ask anybody in the Orlando area, he has been the top receiver in the area for a while now. He is looking forward to continuing the great tradition that the Seminoles have at the position.
"It's not going to be easy, but just being compared to some guys that have been there is an honor," Shaw said. "I've been compared to Snoop Minnis and Peter Warrick at times when I have been up there. It feels good inside, but I know that to make it to the level of those guys, I have to work."
Shaw plans to head to Tallahassee this summer. There are plenty of things he feels he has to work on between now and then.
"I have to work on overall strength," he said. "I have to also polish up on defensive reads, you know is it Cover 3, Cover 2, stuff like that."
