The last player to represent the Chicago Bulls in the NBA All-Star Game offered his congratulations Thursday to Derrick Rose, who was selected by coaches to be a reserve on the Eastern Conference squad.

"I'm very happy for him," Michael Jordan told ESPNChicago.com via text. "The Bulls deserve an All-Star. [Rose] is a very special player."

When asked about Jordan's remarks during a teleconference, Rose said with a smile, "I wish I could have recorded that conversation."

"For him to say that, that's crazy right there," Rose continued. "I was just amazed he even knew my name when I first met him. He's a legend in the game of basketball, in the NBA and in Chicago. For him to say that it means a lot."

Rose said he's received congratulations from several people on his selection to the All-Star team.

"It's cool. It's cool. After I'm long and gone with the Bulls, [people] after me will say that I was an All-Star for the Chicago Bulls," Rose said. "I'm from Chicago That's a big thing especially being from there. [My] family, relatives and friends are just excited about [the selection] more than I am I'd say. I've been getting texts all day, calls. People are calling from out of state that used to live in Chicago. Everybody's just happy for me and I hope I just keep playing well."

Jordan, a 14-time NBA All-Star and recent Hall of Fame inductee, was selected to his last All-Star team -- as a member of the Bulls -- in 1998, when he was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

"[Rose] will represent Chicago well," Jordan said. "Congrats to him and the Bulls."

Rose said he's looking forward to seeing Jordan again.

"Yeah, you always want to see Mike no matter what," Rose said. "You [are] in awe when you see him. It's fun seeing him."
