Cuban to take court with celebrities
By Jeff Caplan
Admit it. You've always wanted to see Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban hoop it up in a pair of John Stockton-like NBA short-shorts.
You'll get your chance at the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Feb. 12 at American Airlines Center. The 5 p.m. game kicks off the first night of All-Star Weekend festivities and is followed by the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge.
Also, Grammy Award winners Usher, Alicia Keys and Shakira will perform during introductions and halftime of the All-Star Game at Cowboys Stadium on Feb. 14, it was announced Tuesday.
Cuban headlines the celebrity game's cast of players from sport, film, TV and music, including local PGA golfer Anthony Kim, actor Chris Tucker ("Rush Hour", "Friday"), seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry and local legend and basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman.
"I'm excited to play. It will be fun to get out there and run and gun," Cuban said via e-mail Tuesday. He cleverly dodged a question about wearing the vintage-era short-shorts.
The celebrities will be outfitted in retro 1986 NBA All-Star uniforms paying homage to NBA All-Star Weekend 1986 at Dallas' old Reunion Arena, which was recently demolished.
NBA legend Magic Johnson and former star-blocker extraordinaire Alonzo Mourning will serve as coaches. The game will be televised on ESPN.
Other celebrities participating:
Doctor Oz (Host, "The Dr. Oz Show"); Common (Musician/Actor)
Anthony Anderson (Law & Order, "Kangaroo Jack")
Joel Moore ("Avatar", "The Hottie and the Nottie")
Rick Fox (Meet the Browns, He Got Game)
Chris Mullin (Five-time NBA All-Star)
Pitbull (Musician, "I Know You Want Me")
