Ott expected to return after Olympics
By Richard Durrett
The Dallas Stars put forward Steve Ott on injured reserve and claimed right wing Brandon Segal off NHL waivers from the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
Ott had an emergency appendectomy on Monday, and he's expected to return after the Olympic break.
The Stars added Segal, 26, to the roster. He's played in 25 games for the Kings this season and had one goal and one assist in 20 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Segal was drafted by Nashville in the fourth round of the 2002 draft. He played in 69 games last season for Norfolk in the AHL and scored 26 goals and added 26 assists. That play earned him a spot on the 2009 Canadian AHL All-Star team.
"Brandon is a right-handed shot, who works hard and plays a high-energy game," Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk siad. "We like him and feel he adds a lot to our group of forwards."
Ott, 27, has 11 goals and 12 assists to go along with 100 penalty minutes in 52 games for the Stars this season. The Stars face Calgary tonight.
