Tyler Wright and Adam Robertson get wildcards

Face time with Rip Curl

I was just told that this appeared on Rip Curl's Facebook page today:

Rip Curl Congrats Adam "Robbo" Robertson and Tyler "Owen's sister" Wright! They got the final wildcards and will be competing the Rip Curl Pro events at Bells this week! Drop some positive thought comments on here so we get some waves up in here!

I don't do the Facebook myself, but there are three things of note here. First off, Adam Robertson is in. Last year, Robertson was unstoppable at the Rip Curl Pro. In classic Bells conditions the local, riding into the event on a wildcard after winning the trials, marched all the way into the finals, where he was finally cut down by Joel Parkinson. On a board with no stickers -- a Simon Anderson-shaped thruster he'd bought used off the rack, the previous owner being one Kelly Slater -- "Robbo" was one of the more inspiring stories to come out of Oz in '09. Well, much to the chagrin of the Class of 2010, the curly-haired regular footer is back, winning the trials yet again. Robertson will be join fellow Rip Curl Pro wildcards Stu Kennedy, who's coming off of a Cold Water Classic win, and Gabriel Medina.

Adam Robertson just won the trials and will look to kill giants again at Bells

The second is that someone at Rip Curl Australia thinks they are in a hip hop video -- "so we get some waves up in here?"

Stop being a drongo. Spend your arvo on walkabout and save the seppo speak for the fair dinkum.

Tyler Wright lets her brother have the limelight from time to time.

Thirdly, Tyler Wright's nickname is now Owen's sister? Come on! Tyler Wright is the ISA under-18 women's champ. She became the youngest competitor to ever win a World Tour event when she chopped down Stephanie Gilmore at the Beachley Classic at age 14 and has a vicious frontside snap. And yes, she happens to be the sister of Owen Wright. In fact, she comes from an entire family of surf phenoms.

That shiela is going to be so fired up, by the end of this contest, you might be calling Owen Tyler's brother. Seeing as the women are surfing right now, probably has her wetsuit on and is getting set for here first heat. Go set 'em straight Tyler.
