CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Tom Gorzelanny suffered a contusion of the upper left arm after getting hit by a line drive off the bat of the Houston Astros' Pedro Feliz during the third inning on Saturday.
Gorzelanny said he expects to make his next start, and Cubs manager Lou Piniella don't see any reason why he won't be ready to pitch Thursday against the New York Mets.
"Absolutely," Gorzelanny said.
With one out in the third inning, Gorzelanny was hit just below his shoulder. The ball ricocheted toward first baseman Derrek Lee, who stepped on the bag for the out. After a visit by the training staff, Piniella and pitching coach Larry Rothschild, Gorzelanny threw three warmup pitches, then retired Carlos Lee on a fly to deep left. He was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom half.
"That's probably the closest I've ever been to getting hit in the face," Gorzelanny said. "Thinking about it now, it doesn't feel like that big of a deal. It doesn't feel like it hurts that much."Every time you can walk away from something like that, you thank the man upstairs."
