NEW YORK -- Osi Umenyiora, unhappy with his role during and after the 2009 season, will not be traded by the Giants, team owner John Mara told ESPNNewYork.com on Thursday night.
"Osi is going to play for us in 2010," Mara pledged by phone.
With the 15th pick in the first round, the Giants selected South Florida pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul, inspiring new speculation that the disgruntled Umenyiora would end up on the block.
"We're bringing him back," Mara maintained after Pierre-Paul was picked. "He's only 28, we see him as a talented and motivated player, and I think he's going to have a huge year for us."
General manager Jerry Reese and his boss are on the same page.
"We're not trading Osi, so you won't even have ask that question," Reese said at a news conference after the Giants selected Pierre-Paul. "I know that is on everybody's mind."
