Clippers fans want LeBron in L.A.
By Ramona Shelburne
LOS ANGELES -- No word on whether LeBron James has a Facebook account, but he has a standing invitation to a group that numbers more than 2000: "Bring LeBron to the L.A. Clippers!!"
The group plans to stage a parade outside L.A. Live across the street from Staples Center on Thursday before the start of Game 5 of the Lakers-Suns Western Conference finals series. According to the Facebook page, more than 500 people responded to say they'd attend the parade, but only about 75 waved signs and chanted slogans on Chick Hearn Court.
With signs displaying the No. 6, which will be James' uniform number next year, the fans chanted "We want the King!" and "L-B-J!"
Longtime Clippers season-ticket holder Darrell Bailey put the event together.
"I just put out a tweet the other day about ideas of what we could do to help bring LeBron James to L.A. and I've had an overwhelming response from Clipper Nation," he said last week.
"Clipper Darrell," as he's known, had a 386-game attendance streak at Clippers home games until April 4.
"I was in the hospital with chest pains for that one," Bailey said. "I'm all right now. It wasn't a heart attack. But if LeBron really does sign with the Clippers I might have a real one.
"It would take us to a new era. Nobody will ever look at the Clippers the same way."
The Clippers are one of a handful of teams with the salary cap space to make a run at James once he becomes a free agent on July 1.
