TCU's Maxwell looks to rebound
OMAHA, Neb. -- Florida State and TCU will meet in an elimination game Wednesday night. One team will start its ace, while the other one hopes for a surprise performance on the mound.
The Horned Frogs (52-13) will start Mountain West Conference pitcher of the year Stephen Maxwell, a junior right-hander who went 11-2 with a 2.41 ERA this season. But in Maxwell's last start, he and TCU got blasted 14-1 by Texas in the super regionals.
Florida State (48-19) will try to get by with left-hander John Gast, who had the highest ERA (5.61) among Seminoles starters this year. FSU is trying to avoid being sent home from Omaha without a title for the 21st time in school history.
The weather is perfect at Rosenblatt Stadium and there's virtually no chance of rain for this second-ever meeting between the two programs.
