Seminoles in control

OMAHA, Neb. -- Other than some shaky defense, Florida State has been in full control of this elimination game against TCU. And a three-run fifth inning, capped by Jayce Boyd's two-out, two-run double, has given the Seminoles a healthy 7-2 lead.

TCU's only runs came in the third inning and were all but gift wrapped, as Florida State committed two errors in the frame. An errant pickoff throw by pitcher John Gast led to one of the scores.

But the Horned Frogs haven't been able to get much else going offensively, as the top of the lineup has failed to come through in big situations. Gast and reliever Daniel Bennett have limited TCU to just five hits in the first six innings. Meanwhile, Horned Frogs starter Steven Maxwell couldn't get out of the third inning, serving up four earned runs.

Florida State has all the momentum and looks headed to a Friday night matchup against UCLA unless TCU can get a late rally going.
